Peiyuan Liao and Boston

I spent a great portion of my teenage years in Boston. Those years gave me time to know the city not as a visitor, but through repetition.

I became fascinated by how Boston continually changes while holding onto its past: old brick beside glass, narrow streets opening onto water, winter light flattening the city and summer green briefly softening it. Walking the same routes through different seasons taught me that a familiar place is never visually settled.

That fascination still shapes how I photograph. In landscapes, I look for atmosphere, distance, and the tension between built and natural space. In still lifes, I bring the same patience to a smaller field, watching how an object, flower, or animal changes the feeling of a room.
